About Nya

Counsellor, psychotherapist and founder of Midcurrent.

I’m Nya, a holistic counsellor and psychotherapist based in South West Western Australia.

My background spans five years of working directly with people across community services, mental health, suicide prevention, peer support and alcohol and other drug settings. I am also the founder and Chair of Busselton Community Safe Space, a community-led service providing free, non-clinical peer support.

What shaped my perspective

Belonging has never felt like a simple question.

I grew up in London and moved to Australia at 19. My mixed-cultural identity has shaped my understanding of belonging and what it can mean to live between different cultures, communities and ways of seeing the world.

My work is also informed by lived experience, which I bring with care and humility - without assuming that my experience is the same as yours.

Through my personal and professional experiences, I have seen the difference between feeling genuinely supported and feeling misunderstood, pathologised or reduced to a label. This has shaped the kind of practitioner I want to be and the reasons I created Midcurrent.

The person I bring to the work

I bring warmth, honesty and genuine curiosity. I am comfortable staying present when conversations are difficult, and I respect that every person arrives with their own history, identity, relationships and way of making sense of the world.

I do not expect you to present a neat or edited version of yourself. I also do not assume that I will be the right practitioner for every person.

The values behind Midcurrent

Reverence · Integrity · Presence · Courage · Curiosity · Belonging

In practice, this means approaching each person’s experience with care, being honest about what I can and cannot offer, remaining present when the work is difficult and staying curious rather than rushing to an explanation.

Finding the right therapist matters

No therapist is right for every person.

A free 15-minute discovery call is available if you would like to ask questions or get a sense of whether working together may feel right.
